    Olio Novello: Three Extraordinary New Olive Oils

    Our annual Olio Novello event is peak olive oil enjoyment. The freshest, highest-quality olive oils in the world, mere weeks old — with all their fresh, peppery, raw, green goodness — are flown from Italy right to our tables to be drizzled, dipped and whisked. Here they are:

    Poggio La Noce

    The apotheosis of Tuscan olive oil. With hints of freshly cut grass, almonds and artichokes, it’s not just one of our favorite oils; two of our favorite people, the husband/wife team of Enzo Schiano and Claire Beliard, produce it. The hand-picked olives from their grove of 1,500 trees are pressed on site the same day. This preserves the intense flavor and fragrance of the olives and ensures the lowest grade of acidity possible.

    Colli Etruschi 

    Hard to believe this oil was still an olive in mid-October. It’s that fresh! This bold, rustic olive oil is made from 100% Caninese olives from the Colli Etruschi Cooperative in the Etruscan town of Blera, just north of Rome, in Lazio. An intense, fruity olive oil with a peppery finish, the oil is impressively versatile. Drizzle it on a ribeye, a pork chop, over antipasti, pasta and vegetable dishes to add a refreshing rustic green olive flavor.

    Spedolotto Tonda Iblea

    Sicily’s Monti Iblei region is the source of some of the finest oils in the world. This one is made with the famous Tonda Iblea olives, whose green, ripe flavors are in perfect balance. The approachable oil has a fresh, green tomato aroma and fruity flavor— like taking a bite of a ripe tomato. It displays remarkable complexity for a single-varietal olive oil, the result of the cultivation of rich soil and craftsmanship in production.
